Students’ low science literacy skills and the limited use of interactive learning media are among the challenges in teaching science at the elementary school level. This study aims to determine the effect of a puzzle-based solar system simulation medium on the science literacy of sixth-grade students at MIN 1 Sintang regarding the solar system. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design, specifically a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study sample consisted of 29 sixth-grade students from Class VI A at MIN 1 Sintang, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a science literacy test and analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, a paired-sample t-test for hypothesis testing, and Cohen’s d effect size. The results showed that the students’ average science literacy scores increased from 70 on the pretest to 84.17 on the posttest, representing a gain of 14.17 points (20.24%). The normality test results indicated that the data were normally distributed. The paired-sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the puzzle-based solar system simulation medium has an effect on students’ science literacy. The magnitude of the effect is indicated by a Cohen’s d value of 2.443, which falls into the “very large” category. The findings of this study suggest that the puzzle-based solar system simulation medium has the potential to serve as an alternative science education medium that can support the development of science literacy among elementary school students.
