PENINGKATAN SIKAP PEDULI LINGKUNGAN SISWA SMP NEGERI 1 SINTANG MELALUI PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH ORGANIK MENJADI ECOENZYME

This study aims to determine the increase in environmental awareness among students at Sintang State Junior High School 1 through activities that involve managing household organic waste to produce ecoenzymes. The study employed a quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 26 students selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a validated environmental awareness questionnaire and analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Paired Sample t-test for hypothesis testing, and N-Gain analysis. The students’ average environmental awareness score increased from 74.35 on the pretest to 103.92 on the posttest, a gain of 29.57 points. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed, so hypothesis testing used the Paired-Sample t-test. The activity of converting household organic waste into ecoenzymes had a positive effect on students' environmental awareness at Sintang State Junior High School 1, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The N-Gain analysis yielded a value of 0.656, which falls into the moderate category. The increase in environmental awareness resulted from students being directly involved in identifying, sorting, and processing organic waste to produce ecoenzymes, thereby gaining meaningful, contextual learning experiences. The research results indicate that ecoenzyme production activities have the potential to serve as an effective, environment-based science learning alternative to support the development of students’ environmentally conscious character.
