Author Guidelines

The authors need to follow the guidelines below:

  1. General Requirements

The minimum standard requirements of SEMIO: Journal of English for Specific Purposes and Applied Linguistics:

  1. Written in English.
  2. All submitted papers must not have been previously published or submitted to any other journal.
  3. The submitted paper is 3500 - 7000 words.
  4. Use APA Style for references, and consider using tools such as Zotero and Mendeley.
  5. Make sure that the paper is written using the SEMIO Template.
  1. Structure of The Manuscript

The manuscript must follow the structure of SEMIO: Journal of English for Specific Purposes and Applied Linguistics below:

  1. Title - The title of the paper is a maximum of 12 words. The title should summarize the main idea or ideas of the paper
  2. Abstract - The body of the abstract is typed in 9-point Book Antiqua letters, single-spaced, and justified. The abstract explains the introduction, gap in literature or discrepancies between theories and practices, purpose of study, method, main findings, and conclusion. Avoid using unfamiliar abbreviations and citations. The abstract should be written in 150 words
  3. Introduction - The article should be written by following the writing format, such as using 11-point Book Antiqua font with one-spaced in justify format. The first paragraph is written with an indented format. The margin and other formats for this article follow this template's set. This part also elaborates on relevant previous studies from the literature review as a theoretical basis. These are all written in several paragraphs without any making a subchapter. 
  4. Method - Researchers need to explain in detail how to conduct the research. In this section, the research design, research time, population and sample or subject, instruments, and data analysis procedure must be elaborated clearly in several paragraphs. Do not make a subchapter for the METHOD section.  
  5. Results and Discussion – This chapter contains the results of research findings and a discussion of the findings obtained. The discussions are presented systematically from general to specific. Results and discussions must also interconnect with the theory used. In this section, the researchers can add a subchapter if needed. 
  6. Conclusion - The conclusion should directly address the research objectives and clearly demonstrate how the study contributes to advancing existing knowledge in the field. It should provide a concise interpretation of the findings rather than merely restating the abstract or summarizing the results. Authors are encouraged to highlight the scientific significance of the study, discuss its potential implications or applications, and suggest directions for future research or ongoing investigations.
  7. Acknowledgement (optional) - Indicate sources of funding or help received in carrying out your study and/or preparing the manuscript, if any, before the references..
  8. References - Authors are required to include at least 15 references, with a minimum of 60% derived from journal articles. Additionally, at least 80% of the journal sources should have been published within the last five years. All references must follow the APA citation style, and the use of reference management software such as Mendeley or Zotero is highly encouraged.
